Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder that causes the skin to lose its pigment of colour, visibly often making affected areas to have patches or spots of white. The spread of spots is not predictable as the disorder is long-term. So a person could have new spots spring up anytime. In most cases, Vitiligo shows up first on the face, arms, legs, legs, pubic regions and generally anywhere exposed to sunlight. There is little or no knowledge about Vitiligo in Nigeria as well as other developing countries, thus making persons with the disorder prone to grave stigmatization and discrimination as it alters their physical appearance.
The Vitiligo Project aims to create the necessary awareness about Vitiligo in order to halt the discrimination and any form of social injustice against people with it while providing necessary support including attending to the psychological needs of persons living with it.
